Possible spam increase to certain domains
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS ADVISORY NOTICE DOES NOT AFFECT HOME USERS WITH
EMAIL ADDRESSES ENDING "@localdial.com".
Localdial would like to inform its customers of the risk of an increase
in spam directed at domains ending in ".gg" and ".je" (the internet
domains for Guernsey and Jersey, respectively). Currently, it appears
that someone is attempting to build up a list of mail servers
responsible for these domains, using a network of "zombie" computers,
which makes tracing the culprit very difficult. The most likely reason
is so that they are preparing for a major spamming operation which will
target the Channel Islands amongst other places. Similar operations have
been conducted against more prominent domains, such as ".com" and
".co.uk". There is also the slight risk of an increase in attempted
virus infection, as the people behind this operation look to expand
their zombie network.
Our advice is sign up to our anti-spam service
if you have not done so already, and make sure that you are running an
up-to-date virus checker on your computer.
