Domain Names are a contentious issue and at some time you may have received a letter saying something along the lines "We can register your business name and store it on our computer for safe keeping" often followed by "and we can also rent you xyz services" It is now worth considering safeguarding your company name for future online use to ensure it is not taken by another opportunistic company or one with a similar name to yours. However these 'Name registration' companies are mostly UK businesses doing large mail shots, some even integrate and suggest an Internet name for you. Most of these companies are UK based and offer a derivative of the UK 'domain name' structure. Jersey is not UK. The Bailiwick is British Isles and for the financial services industry there can be compliance considerations to take into account when associating your business name with the UK. Further, actually hosting your name, mail or web pages on a UK server, even if being 'held' for later use could have VAT levied on the service as it is provided in the UK.
