Al Bishop's plane had sunk U489 and suffered severe damage in the attack. It was lucky that some did survive. If you refer to Breege McCusker's book (Fermanagh in WWII) pages 58/59/60 there is a good account of the action. To make it more significant U489 was one of the 'Milk Cow' tanker submarines. There is one member of the crew missing from the list Morna supplied-he is Fl.Serg. JAV Richard. This makes a crew of 11 instead of the normal 12. Andrew Hendries 'Canadian Squadrons in Costal Command' also gives a good account of the action on pages 75/77/79.
