SUNDERLAND W4000

On the 1st August1942 Sunderland Mark 111 W4000 of 201 Squadron, Castle Archdale crashed at sea while on convoy escort. The aircraft circled convoy WS 21 at 5 miles range, landed and floated for two minutes; then blew up. This was the second 201 SQ.A/C lost on escort duty to this convoy in 48 hours. No Survivors.
