This mid price offering is a collection of tracks released on the original 'Stateside' Label which became popular on the 'Northern' circuit. The desire to cash in on the Northern Renaissance often leads to compilations in which the tracks have been selected solely for their driving beat. This one however has been done with much more sensitivity and contains songs with a variety of tempos. Although it represents good value for money it may have missed its moment because most of the tracks have already been released on previous albums. My favourite tracks are "I'll do Anything" by Doris Troy and "Lipstick Traces (on a Cigarette" by the O'Jays. Although popular in its day "Condition Red" by the Baltimore and Ohio Marching band is another of those tracks with dubious soul credentials.
