Nothing compromising about this CD as it begins at a frenzied pace, proceeds at a frenzied pace and ends at a frenzied pace. Every track is an out and out stomper and without even a hint of funk or a mid-tempo ballad to taint it. Although most Northern Aficionado's will appreciate it, its not the sort of stuff which is likely to make new converts, nor is it the sort of stuff for a romantic evening. If you're a devotee then this is definitely for you but if you're dipping your toes in the water for the first time then I suggest you start with something a little gentler. Every track is an established Northern Classic and anybody who has been on the scene for some time is unlikely to find anything on this compilation with which they are not familiar. My personal favourites have to be 'Goose Pimples' by Shirley J Scott, 'Double Cookin' by the Checkerboard Squares and 'Blowing My Mind To Pieces' by Bob Relf, though in fairness there isn't a duff track on the entire album.
