This album is a Mid-Price collection of sounds that first appeared on the RCA Label.  As the sleeve notes point out, the original singles on this CD would have cost over a thousand pounds, a fact which in itself makes its purchase well worthwhile.

Of the twenty tracks on the compilation 18 are uptempo stomping soul at its most frenzied and for this reason it is unlikely to have any broader appeal beyond the Northern cognoscente.  One of the exceptions to this rule is Ketty Lester's lilting 'Some Things Are better Left Unsaid'.  It was not a track I had heard before but it is now established as a firm favourite.  Other tracks worthy of particular note are the classic 'I Can't Change' by Lorraine Chandler and 'You Shook Me Up' by Roy Hamilton.   I also have a sneaking affection for the syrupy   'Moonlight Music and You' by Laura Greene though I wouldn't be too keen to admit it on a night out with the lads.

The CD is well packaged although the sleeve notes tend to be aimed at Northern Newcomers rather than the veterans who are most likely to be interested in it.  The Middle budget price range makes this CD good value for anybody's collection.
