There is inevitably some overlap between this CD and Spectrum's Early Classics, but not as much as one might expect. The tracks which appear on both compilations are 'SOS', '25 Miles', 'Agent Double-O Soul', 'Headline News', 'My Weakness is You' and 'Way Over There'. This leaves 14 tracks remaining on this CD which are not duplicated, and as such make it still well worth acquiring for the devoted Edwin Fan. The material on this album is later than that of his Early Classics and as such finds Edwin in a much more psychedelic vein, similar to that of the Temptations. The tracks also contain more social comment than there is in the other compilation and includes his anti-war protest songs 'War', 'Stop the War Now' and the drugs related 'Cloud Nine'. One song worthy of particular attention is the magnificent 'Time', which reminds all of us of our mortality. Edwin also takes a rare excursion into a more 'funky' vein with 'Funky Music Sho Nuff Turns Me On' and 'Soul Master'. It is not a question of which CD is better, just that they are different. His Early Classics is much more likely to appeal to the Northern fraternity whilst this one contains a wider variety and will be more popular with the general soul fan My personal favourites on the compilation are 'Time', 'Back Street' and 'Cloud Nine'.
