There is no questioning the quality of the music on this CD as every track is an absolute winner.  All rollicking northern soul classics which are guaranteed to make even the most ardent sceptics foot start tapping.  The concept of an all 'instrumental' compilation is also a good one and provides a mixture of true instrumental releases such as 'Midnight Brew', 'A Case of Love' and 'The Joker' and backing tracks to vocal releases such as 'Magic Potion', 'Happiness Is Here' and Rose Batiste's 'Hit and Run'.  The package includes a very atmospheric front cover with a sax playing silhouette strutting his funky stuff beneath a full moon as a backdrop to a big city outline.   The inside and back covers use blurred photographs of dancers at current Northern Soul Venues.  My biggest criticism of the compilation is that once again the great majority of the tracks have already been released.  The only new ones I could find were 'Dominica', 'They'll Be Coming', 'Beachcomber' and Fred and Bobby's Rhythm Section version of 'What Is This'.  What a shame, especially as there are so many good instrumentals still unreleased, The Brother's 'Are you ready for this',  Earl Van Dyke's 'Six by six',  Alfie Khan's 'Law of the land', The Crusader's 'Put it where you want it' and Al Kent's 'You've got to pay the price' to name just five.  All excellent stuff, but Goldmine cannot continue to re-release the same tunes indefinitely.

Personal favourites on the compilation are 'Frantic Escape' by the Innocent Bystanders, 'I need Help' by the Detroit Land Apples and 'My Sugar Baby' by Connie Clark.
