This album is compiled from the 60's releases (1963-69) of Chicago's 'Okeh' Label which became popular on the Northern Circuit.  Despite being a 'Northern' CD it offers a much greater variety of music than is normally associated with it.   Inevitably it contains some out and out stomping tracks such as 'You're Gonna Make Me Love You' by Sandi Sheldon, 'Gonna Get Along Without You Now' by the Vibrations and 'I'm Coming to Your Rescue' by the Triumphs, but it also contains much gentler tracks such as 'I Still Love You' by the Seven Souls and 'Call Me Tomorrow' by Major Harris.  We are also treated to a psychedelic soul version of Edwin Starr's 'He who picks a Rose' by the Carstairs which is very reminiscent of the Temptations later work.  Walter Jackson adds a very leisurely rendition of 'It's an Uphill Climb to the Bottom' proving that this Chicago label was producing a much wider variety of Soul styles than that which was emanating out of Detroit's formula driven Motown at that time.  This Album is a piece of soul history and should be of interest to more than just the 'Northern' Crowd, it should grace the collection of anybody with an interest in Soul.

Personal favourites on this CD include 'I Still Love You' by The Seven Souls, 'You Don't Want Me No More' by Major Lance and 'I'm Coming to your Rescue' by The Triumphs.   It's also nice to see Little Richard taking some time out from his Rock and Roll to show a little versatility as his rendition of 'I Don't Want to Discuss It' is soul at its very best.
