Considering that this first hit the market in 1999 it is a fabulous offering.  The problem facing CD manufacturers in the late 90's is that most of the popular Northern Soul sounds have already been released.  This means that most of the newer CD's tend to be either full of material that is already available or so obscure that nobody has heard of it.  This CD is neither as it contains many well known tracks which, as far as I am aware, have not been previously issued.  As ever with Kent compilations the sleeve notes are well researched and beautifully presented. All the tracks are all taken from the original Atlantic label and its subsidiary Atco.  Wonderful stuff and a fantastic addition to any soul collection.

Tracks which are particularly memorable are 'Feels Good' - Bobby Wilson, 'Please Operator' - Tony and Tyrone, 'Send Him Back' - Pointer Sisters and the title track 'You Got to Pay Your Dues' by the Drifters.  One to miss is Bar-B-Q by Wendy Rene.
